The Big Horn Mountain
Roundup (known locally as "the Trailride" is an annual event in the
mountains west of Buffalo and Sheridan, Wyoming.
Attendance is by invitation from members of the Board of
Directors, and guests come from the local area, both coasts of the U.S.
, many places in between, and occasionally, overseas. Usually 90-120 riders
participate. A nucleus of 40-50
men attend regularly, but composition of the Ride varies from year to
year.
Events begin on Wednesday evening, of the last full weekend
in July. The campsite is
selected to be central to the three days' rides.
Rides are usually 12-15 miles per day, through the scenic Big
Horns. Camping is in
personal tents. All horses are picketed at night on a high line. All
meals and an open bar are provided.
Outhouse and shower facilities are available.
Basic
horsemanship skills are a pre-requisite for the mountain trails. Most
riders bring their own mounts, but horse and mule rentals are available
from a local outfitter, with prior reservation.
Veterinarians, wranglers, and a farrier are available for
assistance, as necessary.
Evening entertainment includes live
music from local musicians, before and after dinner in the
Bar Tent, and usually an Amateur Standup Comedy event on
Saturday.
The Ride concludes with breakfast, Sunday morning.
